Ensure Compact is a 125 ml, ready-to-drink, nutritionally complete* oral nutritional supplement for people with, or at risk of developing disease-related malnutrition. Its small volume has been specially developed for people who have difficulty drinking larger volumes or who have a poor appetite. Each easy-to-open Ensure Compact bottle provides 300 kcal (2.4 kcal/ml) and 13 g of protein. Ensure Compact is available in 4 delicious flavours; banana, caf?® latte, strawberry and vanilla. *Nutritionally complete for vitamins and minerals in 625 ml (excluding sodium, potassium, chloride and magnesium). Calculated using the UK Reference Nutrient Intake for men aged 19-50 years.
PRECAUTIONS
ÔÇó In patients receiving some medications there may be a risk of drug nutrient interactions. Careful prescribing and monitoring practices will serve to reduce the risk (please refer to a pharmacist).
ÔÇó Do not make any additions to the feed without consulting your pharmacist or dietitian.
ÔÇó Many nutritional products contain sucrose and other sugars. It is important for patients who are taking supplements as sip feeds to observe good oral hygiene. It is suggested that patients consult with their dentist for further advice.
ÔÇó When feeding to patients with dysphagia, please thicken the product as appropriate.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS
ÔÇó Not for parenteral (intravenous) use.
ÔÇó Do not use in children under 1 year of age. Use with caution in children under 6 years of age.
ÔÇó Not for use in galactosaemia.
ÔÇó Suitable for people with diabetes provided that routine glucose checks are performed.
PREPARATION
Ensure Compact is best served chilled and it also tastes great when served as a warm drink. However, it should never be boiled as this can destroy some of the much-needed nutrients.
